[Life Intended] Why Self-Leadership Beats Self-Improvement

Hi Reader,

The personal growth world can be loud.

And crowded.

Fix this. Heal that. Optimize everything.

Read this. Listen to that. Adopt this routine.

Before you know it, you’re knee-deep in a list of all the things you need to change and all the ways you need to “improve.”

But here’s the shift no one talks about:
You don’t need more improvement. You need more self-leadership.

Here’s the difference:

  1. Self-Improvement says: “You’re broken. Let’s fix you.”
    Self-Leadership says: “You’re whole. Let’s trust you.”

  2. Self-Improvement focuses on habits.
    Self-Leadership focuses on alignment.

  3. Self-Improvement chases perfection.
    Self-Leadership chooses presence.

  4. Self-Improvement asks: What should I do?
Self-Leadership asks: What feels true to me?

  5. Self-Improvement is outcome-based.
    Self-Leadership is identity-based.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with awareness and growth and all the things that are great about self-improvement.

But the most powerful (and empowering) growth comes from within.

Not from striving, but from leading yourself with clarity, compassion, and courage.

And to be honest, it's what feels the best and most sustainable too.

So this week, I invite you to pause.

Notice where you're trying to “improve” yourself into worthiness and ask instead:

What if I actually trusted myself here?
What does self-leadership look like when I release the need to prove or push?

The shift might be subtle.
But it’s powerful.
And it’s yours to make.

See you soon!

🖊️ This Week’s Journal Prompt:

Where in my life am I striving to “improve” instead of listening to myself and making choices that feel true to me?

Write it out. Even just a few lines. There’s clarity in the noticing.

Hey Reader, Awaken starts this week and we couldn’t imagine a more aligned time to kick it off. Because let’s be real. Most women, like us, don’t need more information. They need more space to integrate what they are learning, more support to process it and more courage to live it. And this is exactly the kind of experience we’re creating inside Awaken. Awaken is not an information download. It is a 6-week guided journey for women who are juggling a multitude of roles in their lives, and who...

Hi Reader, We ended last week with a powerful Friday Reset on a topic that, is concerningly, but maybe not so surprisingly, out of reach for women - Self compassion Intentional kindness toward yourself, especially when things are hard. To help us explore this for ourselves, Sadie shared a framework from researcher and author Kristin Neff, who describes self-compassion as having three core components: Self-Kindness – Speaking to yourself the way you would a close friend Common Humanity –...

Hi Reader, You’ll hear us talk a lot about Self-leadership, which really starts with self awareness. This is a life skill typically not taught in school so as adults when we go through any transition, or feel pulled to change in some way, it’s hard. Becoming honest with yourself is an important step to cultivating self-awareness, through the quiet, everyday check-ins where you pause and ask: What do I actually care about? What's draining me? What energizes me? What feels out of alignment? You...
