Hi Reader,
We ended last week with a powerful Friday Reset on a topic that, is concerningly, but maybe not so surprisingly, out of reach for women - Self compassion
Intentional kindness toward yourself, especially when things are hard.
To help us explore this for ourselves, Sadie shared a framework from researcher and author Kristin Neff, who describes self-compassion as having three core components:
- Self-Kindness – Speaking to yourself the way you would a close friend
- Common Humanity – Remembering that struggle is part of being human
- Mindfulness vs. Over Identification – Acknowledging what you feel without getting swept away by it
We reflected on how often we know this intellectually… but still default to criticism, judgment, or silence when we need support most.
Why is this so hard for us?
Many of us struggle to be kind to ourselves because we have internalized societal expectations, we are scared of vulnerability, and we equate self-compassion with self-pity.
Somewhere along the line, we learned:
- “Being hard on myself is how I stay driven.”
- “If I let myself rest, I’ll fall behind.”
- “Everyone else is handling it so I should be able to, too.”
If there are any Perfectionists out there - our drive can make it very difficult to accept our imperfections, our failures and offer compassion for ourselves when we make a mistake.
But what if none of that was true?
What if being kinder to yourself made your ambition far more achievable and sustainable?
Self-kindness doesn’t mean that you avoid taking responsibility, it simply means holding yourself accountable with care, not cruelty. Struggle is part of being human, and you are not alone in this.
Life Intended helps women learn the skills of Self-leadership, including how to offer yourself the kind of compassion you give to everyone else so freely.
This is the reframe we’re holding inside Life Intended right now. And it’s also the foundation of what we teach in Awaken.
If this resonates with you because you’ve been your own worst critic for too long, Awaken is where we start shifting that.
It’s a 6-week group coaching experience to help you rebuild your relationship with yourself - your voice, your values, your power.
We begin June 5.
And there’s still time to join us.

You don’t have to do this alone.
