[Life Intended] The 2-Minute Shift That Creates More Margin in Your Day

Hi Reader,

I used to think that I needed a “day off” or “just more hours in my day” to feel like I could catch my breath. And (I’m guessing that like you), that really never happens.
But, I’ve realized that my peace actually comes from how I use the space I already have.

For example, my daily walk home after dropping my daughter off at school used to be filled with phone calls and podcasts.
Now? It's a quiet time that I claim as mine.

Let’s call it a margin moment.
And having that time, and using it for me and not giving it to others, changes everything about how I enter the rest of my day.

You’ll hear Sadie often say that one of her core values is “Space” - she is unapologetic about needing space to think, talk, create, feel. It is tough to unlearn the habits of filling our time, so starting small is a helpful way to begin

This week’s practice: Finding the Margin

What is margin?

Margin is the in-between. It’s the intentional space between all of your obligations and responsibilities. It’s a chance to check in instead of check out.

It’s the breath between tasks. The pause before the next thing.

It’s time you don’t just fill up so that you can reflect, reset, or simply be.

And the great thing about margin is that you don’t need a full day or even an hour of it to make a huge difference. You just need to recognize the opportunities and take an intentional pause.
Try this the next time you shift from one thing to another:

Before you walk into the meeting…
Before you respond to a text…
Before you pick up your kids…
Before you go from work to dinner prep…

Ask: “What do I need at this moment?”

Then listen.
Maybe it’s a deep breath.
A stretch.
A quick walk.
A song.
Or silence.

Whatever it is that you need is valid.
And it belongs to you. So many times we give these moments away, but it’s time to start holding onto them for ourselves.

This is exactly the kind of intentional practice we guide women through in our weekly and monthly Reset sessions.

We also talk about this exact idea in this week’s episode of Life Intended Podcast with Jessica Adams, founder of Discover Yellow. Jessica shares simple, powerful shifts to help you create this kind of space in your every day.

Hi Reader, There are seasons when it all just feels like too much.Too many decisions. Too many demands. Too many tiny things to remember. And somehow, yet again, you’re the one holding it all. Whether it’s back-to-school prep, a big work project, or just the mental weight of being the default everything, this time of year has a way of turning up the pressure. We’ve been talking a lot about that lately. Not just the overwhelm itself, but the systems, habits, and mindset shifts that actually...

Hi Reader, I’ve been thinking a lot about time. How we spend it. How we protect it. How easy it is to fill it without meaning to. Last week, I shared that we lost my brother-in-law, Mark. In the time since, I’ve witnessed the incredible ripple effect of a life lived with presence and intention. Mark knew what mattered. He poured into his people. And the love that came back to him in those final days was a reflection of that. It has me looking closely at how I’m living, too. Where am I...

Hi Reader, Before I get into this week's newsletter, I wanted to share some personal news. On Sunday, my brother-in-law Mark, passed after a 2 year battle with Stage IV Colorectal Cancer. We are heartbroken to no longer have his presence in our lives, but are so thankful that his fight and suffering is over. The topic of today's newsletter and the podcast this week is Relationships. And I want to take a minute to honor Mark and just say how timely I think this topic is. Relationships were...
