[Life Intended] How to Ditch the "Should Life"

Hi Reader,

OK, who decided to have Halloween, time change and the election all within 6 days?!

Poor planning if you ask me. Also, when are we going to stop this time change madness? What happened to the Sunshine Protection Act? Why do toddlers have no regard for this change? Lol. Send help.

Anyway, with everything that's been going on, it was good timing for last week's episode. If you're feeling overstimulated and dysregulated, be sure to give that one a listen!

This week's episode features a guest that is so aligned with why I started the podcast - to help people, women specifically, stop living their lives on autopilot. Marni's phrase is "Ditch the 'should life'" and I love that so much.

Marni and I discuss the traps of societal “shoulds” alongside common limiting beliefs, which are a combo that results in feeling stuck or like you’re not living authentically.

One of Marni’s most powerful messages? Stop waiting for a perfect future. She explains that happiness doesn’t arrive once we “get it all together.” She used the phrase "New Level, New Devil" and I think that's my new favorite quote from one of my guests. You won't arrive, there will always be a challenge waiting for you. Instead, think of life as being about courageously moving away from pre-set expectations and embracing the journey—even if it’s messy.

And it will be messy. Expect it!

We also discuss the importance of being a creator and having agency as paths to fulfillment. Marni encourages listeners to see every day as an opportunity to create—whether it’s new ideas, new connections, or simple moments of joy. Marni explains that being a creator doesn't necessarily mean being creative and I love how important she describes this distinction is for living the life you want.

This episode is a must-listen for anyone ready to escape the “should life” and step into something radically meaningful. Listen in for inspiration, courage, and practical steps to help you reclaim your power and redefine success!

Wishing you a great week - let's all be kind to each other!

P.S. I'm so excited to be building out a network of AMAZING partners for Life Intended. I'm partnering with brands whose products I know, use, love and think are truly useful in living a more authentic and purposeful life. And a bonus is that they will help me support the podcast and my vision as I continue to build out the Life Intended brand. You'll begin hearing me talk about my partners in episodes and will start seeing them mentioned on my socials and in the newsletter. I plan to do this like I've done everything to this point, authentically and with intention! See my full list so far here!

That was a long PS:) Thanks again for being here and for your support. It truly does mean so much!

THIS WEEK'S EPISODE:

Ditch the ‘Should Life’: Marni Battista on Embracing Radical Living with Courage and Clarity

Listen on: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Amazon Music | YouTube

In today's episode, I talk with Marni Battista, life transformation specialist and author, on the power of letting go of the “should life” to embrace radical living. In this episode, Marni shares her journey from conventional success to living on her own terms, offering listeners a roadmap for doing the same. Marni’s expertise in personal growth, self-discovery, and redefining success empowers listeners to recognize and overcome limiting beliefs, create a life aligned with their true desires, and start saying yes to a life of purpose and fulfillment. Marni inspires anyone seeking deeper meaning and freedom to take bold, transformative steps!

Takeaways:

  • Ditch limiting beliefs; see mistakes as learning opportunities.
  • Redefine success on your own terms, not society's.
  • Start small—use "life experiments" to test new paths.
  • Embrace creativity as a path to fulfillment and purpose.

What I'm loving:

Each week, in this section, I'll add links to things I'm listening to, reading, cooking, wearing and more - the things I'm loving right now!

📚 What I'm reading: I just read a book written by one of my upcoming podcast guests, Listening in the Raw. It's a really interesting book about all the things that get in our way of truly listening and what prevents us from being truly heard. Couldn't help but see examples of this everywhere with the election in full swing!

🎧 What I'm listening to: I was just a guest on The Inviting Shift Podcast! This is a great discussion on grief and how grief shows up in all sorts of ways in our lives. Check it out and let me know what you think!

🤣 What's making me laugh: Lots of things! During a week like this, I personally believe that we have to find what makes us smile and laugh and reminds us that we are all just humans trying to do the best we can! And when we work on becoming more authentic and the versions of ourselves that are true, we can show up better for ourselves, those we love and the world.

See you all back here next week!

Hello Reader, This week’s solo episode of Life Intended is one that’s very close to my heart. I decided to take a break from interviews to explore a topic I believe is at the core of intentional living: self-reflection. So why dedicate an entire episode to this? Because I've experienced firsthand the power of pausing and asking myself the tough questions. We live in a world where we're constantly on the go, juggling endless responsibilities, and it’s easy to fall into autopilot mode. But when...

Hi Reader, Think about the relationships that mean the most to you: your partner, close friends, family, colleagues, maybe even the connection you have with yourself. What if I told you there’s one simple shift that could deepen every single one of those relationships? It’s this: learning to truly listen. I’m not talking about the kind of listening we often do, nodding along while our minds are racing to respond. I’m talking about listening with vulnerability, with genuine curiosity, and...

Hi Reader, Have you ever noticed how easy it is to say “yes” to everything, only to find yourself exhausted, stretched thin, and a little resentful? By nature, I'm a "do it myself", "I can do more" and "don't want to disappoint" type of person. So, it can be difficult for me to even realize I'm saying yes to too much. If I’m being really honest, it took me a long time to realize that those feelings of irritability and overwhelm weren’t signs of failure—they were signals that I needed...
