[Life Intended] Are you too busy to have fun?

Hey Reader!

In our constant journey toward a balanced life, we often focus on the "big" areas: career, relationships, health, and finances. Don't get me wrong, those are important.

But what about having fun? What about joy? That spark of lightness, playfulness, and fun that makes life feel fun and you feel alive?

In our upcoming The Balanced Life coaching program, Sadie and I dive into the neglected but essential theme of Joy & Fun. Our week of Joy is all about reconnecting with the things that light you up, rediscovering lost passions, and giving yourself permission to prioritize play.

Research shows that experiencing joy and engaging in playful activities can reduce stress, boost your creativity, and improve your overall mental health.

Yet, as women, we often feel guilty for prioritizing fun. We’re so busy taking care of others, meeting deadlines, and managing responsibilities that we forget (and often times deny ourselves the opportunity) to nurture our own sense of joy.

I don't know about you, but that's NOT something I want to teach my daughter.

In our Week of Joy, we’ll explore:

  • Why joy is essential: How play and fun contribute to emotional resilience and well-being.
  • Overcoming guilt: Why we feel guilty about having fun and how to reframe those beliefs.
  • Rediscovering lost passions: Reflecting on childhood joys and identifying what still lights you up today.
  • Creating a "Joy List": A practical tool to help you schedule and prioritize fun activities. We have a huge list of ideas and resources to help get you started!

When we neglect joy, we risk burnout, resentment, and a sense of emptiness. By reconnecting with play and fun, we not only recharge our energy but also cultivate a deeper connection to ourselves and our desires. (Remember those important questions: What do I want? and What do I need? Sometimes fun is the answer.)

Joy reminds us of what it means to truly live, not just exist.

In The Balanced Life program, we’ll guide you through exercises like creating a "Joy List" and committing to one fun activity each week. These small, intentional acts can have a profound impact on your overall happiness and alignment with your values.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to take a moment today to reflect: When was the last time you did something just for fun? And if you can't think of anything, write a list of what you used to do for fun, even as a child. And then pick one of those things to do in the next week.

And if you’re ready to dive deeper into this topic (as well as 7 others) and explore how joy fits into your balanced life, join us for The Balanced Life coaching program.

Whether you can join us in person or virtually, fill out this form to let us know you're interested and we'll reach out to chat about the details.

Have a great week and Happy Valentine's Day! Be sure to celebrate yourself! ❤️

Life Intended host Kelly Berry and Thetasomatics founder Isabella Mainwaring discuss her new book The Power We Hold

Hi Reader, From KellySadie wrote something new yesterday and I absolutely love her framing. Sharing it here because so many of us are in a “something’s changing” season. From SadieThresholds are the moments in life when you feel the ground moving under your feet. You’re not fully where you were, and not quite where you’re going. Maybe you recognize yourself here: You’re leading at work and feel the weight of expectations from every direction. You’re returning after maternity leave or another...

Life Intended podcast with host Kelly Berry and guest Julia Arpag

Hi Reader, So many of us spend years looking outside ourselves for the next right move. We hire experts, read books, scroll through advice, hoping someone else will hand us the answer. Here’s the shift we’re inviting you to make: leading yourself starts when you stop outsourcing your power. You can lean on resources and wisdom while still remembering that you get the final say. Reflection, tools, and community are here to bring you back to what you already know, not to shape you into someone...

Sadie Wackett, Executive Coach, Facilitator and Chief People Officer looking over her shoulder

Hi Reader, Have you ever felt: "I want two things at once, and I feel guilty or confused no matter what I choose.” I want to work, and I want more time with my kids.I want to be needed and I want freedom.I want to reach my full potential and I want to rest. It feels like contradiction. But what if it’s actually your inner voice, knocking at the door? The way we’ve been taught to live is cracking. Burnout rates are at record highs, technology is accelerating at inhuman speeds, and many of us...
